Devils Lake Herbicide Treatment * August 7, 2014

On August 4th, Steve, from PLM reported:

Most of the areas [noted on the Rollin Twp. portion of Devils Lake] are just small patches of milfoil scattered throughout the lake.  Overall things look good. We had to search to find milfoil as it is nowhere near the levels it was initially.  The native plants are doing well as most have fallen below the water surface and should not be creating a problem for recreation while providing great habitat for fish.

We are planning the treatment for Thursday August 7th.  We will be hitting the areas I marked with the GPS and any other areas they may come across while they are there.

Round and Devils Lakes Survey Reports * July 10, 2014

On July 10th, Steve, from PLM reported:

Conditions were not good yesterday for surveying Devil’s Lake with the low water clarity and the wind.  I did check several treatment areas and saw the milfoil was dead or dying and native plants had filled in those areas.  Found a couple small patches of milfoil along the way, but I will have to wait for better conditions to mark remaining areas for treatment.

Round Lake still looked very good. Most of the treatment areas from last year were still milfoil free.  I did find a few areas that had low density milfoil mixed with a lot of native plants.  Also found a few patches of just milfoil.  I will get a treatment scheduled for later in the month to hit these spots.  It will be a pretty minor treatment and only shoreline areas near the treatment sites will be posted.  I will send you a map prior to treatment.  I am tentatively planning on July 23rd or 24th for treatment. This is weather dependent.  If conditions allow, I will survey Devil’s to look for milfoil patches on this day.  Treatment would probably take place the following week.

Round and Devils Lakes Committees Meet * June 26, 2014

RESULTS: PLM Invasive Species Surveys & Treatment * June 2014

Invasive species surveys of the Rollin Township portion of Devils Lake and Round Lake were done by PLM on Monday, June 9th.

Round Lake EWM survey showed only one very small area of milfoil and we decided to not do treatment in Round Lake this spring.

Devils lake survey indicated approximately 30 acres of EWM as shown on the map attached.  Treatment was done on Thursday June 12.  The entire lakeshore in Rollin will be posted.  A post treatment survey will be done two to three weeks following treatment.  Treatment will be by 2-4D beyond a hundred feet or so of shore and with Renovate near shore.

Pondweed is throwing seeds now and the tops show above water.   Normally, the plant retreats to depths of three feet or more below the surface when the seeds have been dispersed.
